DETROIT – A woman has died after allegedly being shot by her uncle, police said.
The shooting happened Thursday in the 14400 block of Fordham on Detroit's east side.
Kendra Gardner, 25, was found shot in the head. Police said her 65-year-old uncle shot her.
Another woman inside the home was able to disarm the man, police said.
Authorities were able to recover two guns from the scene and the man was taken into custody.
The motive for the shooting is currently unknown.
Detroit police released this details Friday morning:
On December 29, 2016 at approximately 7:50 p.m. troopers from the Metro South Post, Safe Cities partnership, responded to the 14000 block of Fordham in the city of Detroit when the Detroit Police Dispatch put out a call of a person shot in the head. When troopers arrived on scene they observed a male face down on the porch and it appeared a female was kicking the male. The female went into the home and troopers made contact with the male believing he was the shooting victim. The male appeared unconscious. From inside of the residence, a female was yelling to call EMS. Troopers entered the house and were directed to the bedroom where there was a female shot in the head. Troopers began rendering first aid, established an airway and used a bag valve mask to assist the female victim. EMS arrived on scene and declared the female dead. The male suspect on the porch was taken into custody as it was learned he was possibly a suspect. A shotgun and a pistol were recovered and the scene was turned over to the Detroit Police Department.
