Father killed outside Highland Park home; Police seek person of interest

Family members identify victim as Brandon Rice

HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. – A father of six was shot and killed early Thursday morning outside his home in Highland Park.

Family members tell Local 4 that 33-year-old Brandon Rice was in the 300 block of Elmhurst Street warming up his car to take some of his children to school when he was shot.

Rice's girlfriend, who asked not to be identified, said they were together for 14 years and called him her "Super Man."

"I watched him get killed on my front porch," Rice's girlfriend said. "Anything I ever needed, he was just always there for me. He never let me down."

Shortly after Rice's death, police identified 25-year-old Dmarco Dorian-Vincent Hoskins as a person of interest in the shooting.

"We do know that he was at that location, per some of the witnesses that were over there. They said he was there. We want to just ask him some questions," Highland Park police chief Kevin Coney said.

However, Local 4 spoke to Hoskins by phone. Hoskins said he's in North Carolina and has been there for a month. Still, Hoskins was taken into police custody in North Carolina, Highland Park police said.
