MELVINDALE, Mich. – A school bus driver in Melvindale is accused of throwing ice at a group of misbehaving children on Tuesday and injuring an 11-year-old girl who was an innocent bystander.
Patrick Brennan, 63, of Lincoln Park, is charged with child abuse (4th degree) and assault and battery after the girl was hit in the head with a chunk of ice, causing her to bleed.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office says a group of Allendale Elementary School students were misbehaving on the bus. The driver became angry, grabbed some ice from outside and threw it in the bus at the children. The 11-year-old girl who was hit in the head was not one of the children misbehaving, according to the Prosecutor's Office.
Melvindale police officers went to the child's home about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday and found her with a cut above her left eye and blood on her scarf. She was treated at home.
An investigation into how she was injured lead to the arrest of Brennan on the same day.
Brennan was arraigned Thursday afternoon in the 24th District Court in Allen Park.
