YPSILANTI, Mich. – The National Airlines 747 cargo jet had just taken off from Bagram Airfield when something catastrophic happened. Right now, the question is what.

The Taliban immediately claimed credit for the crash that killed all seven people onboard the flight, including five people from Michigan. However, coalition forces in Afghanistan say that's not the case. They are working to figure out the cause.

Local 4 has confirmed Capt. Brad Hasler, of Michigan, was onboard. His family is in total shock.
"We are devastated by this loss," the family said. "Brad leaves behind a pregnant wife, due in October and their daughter and his step-daughter."
The families have been told they will be briefed by the company Tuesday on the latest developments.
National Airlines moves cargo all over the world and is one of several American companies that has Department of Defense contracts in Afghanistan. The airline used to be headquartered at Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti but moved its operations six months ago to Orlando, Fla.
