Prosecutors allege Moyer was distracted while driving

SUMMERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A basketball coach at Michigan State University is due in court Wednesday afternoon for a preliminary hearing in connection with a fatal crash in Summerfield Township.

Todd Moyer, 37, an associate strength and conditioning coach for MSU's men's basketball team, was charged with reckless driving causing death.

The crash happened July 14 on US-23 north of Summerfield Road.

Prosecutors allege Moyer was distracted while driving southbound in a 2007 Dodge Ram and crashed into several vehicles, ultimately killing two people.

Gladys Johnson, 35, of Redford, and Za-Kira Johnson, 5, were pronounced dead at the scene.
