President Trump expected to discuss fuel economy during Michigan visit

DETROIT – President Donald Trump's visit to Michigan on Wednesday is expected to focus less on autonomous vehicles on more on the fuel which powers them.

Trump will visit the American Center for Mobility in Ypsilanti where an industry test track for autonomous vehicles is being created. CNN reports Trump will announce a new review of federal fuel economy and emissions rules.

It could open the doors for lower fuel economy requirements and less stringent controls on carbon dioxide emissions. Automakers have said they might not be able to meet current long-term fuel economy goals due to cheap gas.

In 2012, President Obama's administration announces changes that would have required automakers to achieve fuel economy of 54.5 miles per gallon by the year 2025. A letter sent to the Trump administration from a group of 18 automakers last month asked for a review of the requirements.
