Monroe County Sheriff's finds assault suspect dead in London Township

LONDON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The Monroe County Sheriff's Office has opened an investigation into a death that occurred on Ostrander Road in London Twp.

According to authorities, on Monday, at approximately 7:15 a.m., Monroe County sheriff deputies responded to the 12700 block of Ostrander Road to investigate an assault and battery complaint. Enforcement officers arrived at the scene and spoke with the victim of the assault, who had called 911 to make a report.

The suspect had left the scene before responding deputies arrived.

At about 2:00 p.m, Monroe County Central Dispatch received a 911 call, reporting a body in a ditch in the 12800 block of Ostrander Rd. The location of the body was approximately a quarter of a mile away from the assault that took place earlier in the day.

Monroe County sheriff deputies along with members of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Detective Bureau, responded to the scene to investigate further.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the body belonged to the same person wanted for
questioning in the earlier reported assault and battery complaint. He was identified as Andrew James William, a white man from Niles, Michigan.

WIlliam was transported the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy which was completed on Tuesday morning. The investigation is ongoing and is pending the official results of the autopsy.
