ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 10-year-old girl broke free from an alligator attack by prying its jaws open at Moss Park in central Florida, according to affiliate NBCDFW.com.

The girl was with her family Saturday when she was bitten by an alligator, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission told NBCDFW.com.

Wildlife commission spokesman Chad Weber said the girl was sitting in the water when the 8 feet 9 inch gator bit her knee and calf.

She was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, NBCDFW.com said.

Wildlife officials reportedly trapped the alligator and euthanized it.
