Detroit PAL moving forward on plans for old Tiger stadium

'The Corner' will be new headquarters for Detroit PAL

DETROIT – The dream to re-build the old Tiger Stadium site is becoming a reality thanks to supporters of the Detroit Police Athletic League (PAL).

The nonprofit on Tuesday said it has secured $12 million of the $15 million its "Kids at the Corner" campaign, and will break ground on a new youth sports complex.

PAL's headquarters will be an L-shaped structure that partially encloses the historic playing field. Tiger Stadium opened in 1912 as Navin Field. The Tigers left for Comerica Park after the 1999 season.

Detroit PAL is a nonprofit organization positively impacting the lives of nearly 12,000 children each year through athletic, academic and leadership development programs.

Detroit PAL also trains volunteer coaches and creates safe places for kids to play. Each year, Detroit PAL teaches over 1,700 community members how to be encouraging and effective mentors.
