WASHINGTON D.C. – President Barack Obama will be traveling to Detroit to experience the North American International Auto Show and see the progress that has been made in the American auto industry.
His visit is planned for Wednesday, Jan. 20.

“I believe that every American should be proud of what our most iconic industry has done,” Obama said.
In his weekly address, Obama highlighted the more than 640,000 new auto industry jobs created since the auto rescue and the record auto sales in the U.S. in 2015.
“Seven years ago, auto sales hit a 27-year low,” Obama said. “Last year, they hit an all-time high.”
He compared the state of the auto industry to businesses across America, which are on a 70-month streak of job creation.
Obama also hopes to experience firsthand the remarkable progress made by the city, its people and the neighborhoods.
