DETROIT – A man was fatally shot by an officer Monday afternoon after a foot chase and a struggle on Detroit’s west side.
The shooting happened at Otsego and Webb streets.
According to police, the man was fleeing from police in a green Pontiac Bonneville and lost control of his vehicle, hitting a utility pole. The man allegedly got out of the vehicle and ran on foot.
Chief Craig said the officer was in the process of handcuffing the man when the suspect tried grab the officer's gun. Police said the officer got into a scuffle with the man and fatally shot him.
The officer was not injured.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police originally had said there was more than one person involved in the scuffle.
