DETROIT – Michigan State Police are investigating two incidents early Monday morning that happened along Interstate 96 in Detroit that involved a carjacking and a shot being fired at a driver.
The first incident happened just before 4 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near Martin Luther King.
Police said a driver was on his way to work when a silver or gold Chrysler 200 started "brake checking" in front of him. When the driver tried to go around the Chrysler, he was forced into a wall and held at gunpoint while the four people inside the Chrysler stole his car.
The victim walked to a nearby gas station and called police for help.
Roughly 20 minutes later, another driver called police to report that when he went to get onto westbound I-96 at the Davison he passed what he thought was a crash involving three cars.
Police said the driver was then sideswiped by a Chrysler 200 and someone got out and fired a shot at him.
The driver was able to put his car in reverse and get away from the scene unharmed.
Police said the other two vehicles involved in that incident were described by the driver as an older model Dodge Charger and a smaller black car, possibly a Chevy Cobalt that was stolen during the first incident.
That car was found at 5:45 a.m. at the I-96 service drive and Scotten.
Police said nothing had been stolen from the car.
Troopers are asking that anyone who has information on these two incidents or saw these vehicles during the early morning hours contact MSP at 855-MICH TIP.
