Report: Target closing store at Eastland mall in Harper Woods

HARPER WOODS, Mich. – Target is closing its store at Eastland Center, according to a report in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune on Tuesday. MSNBC confirmed the news.

Here's the Star-Tribune report:

The local store closing is one of 12 nationwide planned for 2018, the newspaper reports. The dozen stores slated to close on Feb. 3 are described as underperforming, according to the Star-Tribune.

Target opened in Harper Woods in 1996, replacing a Kohl's.

The closure will leave a noticeable gap east of Detroit in store locations. After the Eastland Mall store closes, the nearest Target stores will be in Warren or Clinton Township.

Earlier this year Macy's closed its store at Eastland Center, which opened in 1957. Applebee's also closed near the mall.

Target is also reportedly closing a store in Benton Harbor, Mich.
