WESTLAND, Mich. – Detectives from the Westland Police Department are investigating a shooting that left two people dead.
It happened about 2:30 a.m. Monday on Treadwell near Norene, which is in the area of Palmer and Newburgh roads. Police responded to several 911 calls about shots fired and one caller who said they found a body in the road.
Police found that a man's body in the street, then found a second body closer to the sidewalk about a half block away from the other body.
The victims are 19 and 35 years old. One of them was rushed to a hospital, but was pronounced dead.
Police say evidence leads them to believe this is a drug-related shooting. Officers found a bag of drugs at the shooting scene. They believe this could have been a drug deal.
"Upon checking further evidence the area we have discovered that it's most likely a drug-related incident, so we want people to know that this doesn't appear to be some random act, and that the neighborhood is as safe at it can be right now," said Sgt. Robert Wilke.
However, police have not found a weapon. There may have been a third person involved.
No arrests have been made.
There is an elementary school about a block away. Neighbors hope the scene is clear in time for kids to go to school.
