Video shows daring rescue of man from car in Lake St. Clair

GROSSE POINTE FARMS, MIch. – A man was rescued Monday morning by witnesses, firefighters and police officers after driving his vehicle into Lake St. Clair.

The incident happened at Winthrop Place and Lakeshore Drive in Grosse Pointe Farms.

The driver suffered a medical condition and drove a 2015 Cadillac into the lake.

Witnesses rushed into the water to help the driver. Firefighters and police responded to the scene.

“I ran towards the water, took off my boots, threw my wallet and my phone and jumped in,” John Lyon said. “Somebody from shore threw us a rock and we had to break the windows.”
