Fouts claims he's received death threats; Warren police told not to investigate

Police will not amp up security around Fouts' home

Warren mayor Jim Fouts said he has been receiving death threats in light of the new audio tape which allegedly depicts Fouts using hateful language toward the disabled and blacks.

It is unclear how or where the threats are made, and the media has been denied access to the audio files.
Fouts took to social media to continue the claim that the tapes are forged, adding that he will not resign even in the face of new threats.

Regarding the piling on of nasty tapes. I fully expect that they (Hackel & Company) will continue to manufacture more...

Police in Warren said they are not investigating the threats per the mayor's request that the officers focus on more important matters.

Fouts did not return calls for comment, but he did address the threats further on his Facebook account.

A number of black leaders and other elected officials are calling for Fouts’ resignation, but not everyone is in agreement.

“He’s not perfect, but I don’t believe he said any of the things he’s being accused of,” said Fouts supporter Jerry Bell.

Police offered to increase patrols around Fouts’ home, but he denied that offer.
