YPSILANTI, Mich. – The report of a rape near campus has prompted Eastern Michigan University campus police to issue a crime alert to staff and students.

Police said the victim, who is not an EMU student, said she was walking near Ballard and Emmet street on July 30 when she was approached by a man who asked to use her cell phone. She was lured behind a home and then raped, police said.

Police described the assaulter as black, in his late 20s, 5 feet 11 inches tall to 6 feet tall, with an athletic build, shaved or bald head and clean shaven. He was wearing a dark colored T-shirt and long basketball style shorts.
