Fun Facts about America's Thanksgiving Parade

America's Thanksgiving Parade is right around the corner. In honor of the event, here are some fun facts about it!

  • Started in 1924.
  • Gets more than 100 million viewers every year.
  • Ever get sick of Christmas decorations appearing earlier and earlier every year? Well, historically the beginning of the Christmas season has been defined by Santa getting out of his float at the end and accepting the key to the city.
  • Tied with New York for "second oldest parade in the country". Only Philadelphia has an older parade.
  • This year has the largest float to every appear in America's Thanksgiving Parade. See more about it here!
  • The parade route is 4 miles long, traveling down Woodward.
  • This year a float created by middle school student Yuliana Ortiz will be featured, thanks to the Skillman Foundation. See more about it here!
