DETROIT – Free agent center Frans Nielsen has signed a 6-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings.
Official contract details are not known at this time. However, reports are that the deal carries a $5.25 million annual salary cap hit.

Nielsen is touted as a solid two-way-center who can take faceoffs and play both ends of the ice. At 32 years old, he has spent the past 10 seasons with the New York Islanders, who drafted him 87th overall in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Nielsen scored 20 goals and 32 assists in 81 games with the Islanders this past season. He notched another 3 goals and 3 assists in 11 playoff games.
