DETROIT – Construction of the new arena for the Detroit Red Wings is well underway.
The first pieces of the arena's roof were raised this week. This short video shows a closer look at the construction.
The arena construction is slated to be completed in time for the 2017-18 season.
Olympia Development says on its District Detroit website that the arena will part of "50 blocks of thriving businesses, parks, restaurants, bars and event destinations."
Olympia updated master plan shows a hotel with between 300 and 450 rooms will be built. It also shows space for 150 different residential units and 200,000 square feet worth of office space for retail and restaurants. That's about 3 and 1/2 football fields worth of space.
