Allison Schmitt is from Canton, Michigan, and will be competing in her third Olympics this summer. She has previously won six medals in freestyle swimming events, and she was named one of the captains of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Swim Team.
Schmitt began swimming at age nine, following her older sister, Kirsten. She swam at the Ann Arbor Swim Club, and during her senior year of high school, she began training at the University of Michigan alongside Michael Phelps. Later that year, she competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics, where she won her first medal.
