Detroit City FC wins home opener, 1-0

Detroit limits offensive threat from Cincinnati Saints en route to victory

DETROIT – Detroit City FC did not disappoint loyal supporters Saturday afternoon as the club handled the Cincinnati Saints en route to a 1-0 victory at Cass Tech High School.

Zach Myers' goal came at about the 37th minute thanks to a great cross from Colin McAtee. Myers was near the goal line where he put it home.

Cincinnati was held to limited scoring opportunities as Detroit kept most of the pressure at the other end of the pitch.

There were a few yellow cards handed out as the game got a bit chippy up the middle. Cincinnati had a couple decent free kick looks, but couldn't generate any quality scoring chances.

The Northern Guard was loud and proud for this home opener on a beautiful afternoon. "You should have stayed indoors" was one of the more clever chants of the match. The Saints were playing in an indoor league just months ago before joining the NPSL. Detroit fans were quick to remind them of that.

Here is the "Tetris" cheer:
