The last time Detroit matched up with Baltimore was away on November 14th in which, in multi-point scoring, they were shut out 0-26. This time around, Detroit will be on their home turf and have more of their roster on hand than they typically have on away games and the scoring will be the normal soccer single point tally.
The Blast is also facing a double-header weekend as they are in Milwaukee Friday night to face the 2nd place Central Division Wave (8-5) and then move on to Detroit. It gives Detroit an added advantage as they are not traveling and have been able to regroup since their last game away at Rochester last weekend.
Waza Flo will however be without Head Coach Costeau Decu after he received a red card against Rochester and has to sit out on this game.
Despite a 3-9 record and 4th place in the Eastern Division, Waza Flo have been very competitive and have pushed opponents until the very last seconds in many close matchups. Baltimore was a huge blow to them and they are looking to make it a battle on Saturday.
Dominic Scicluna, Owner/Coach/Player of Waza Flo describes this season as "a transition year for us". They have seen many veteran and core players injured and have made adjustments with additions like Chris Williams and Zach Bowman earlier in the year, as well as changes in goal as needed with the Tony Halterman as the most recent starting goalie.
"This will be a David and Goliath story if we can play our best with Decu out and a few of our players out as well," Sciluna adds due to facing the top team.
Bowman knows all too well how Baltimore can be as he is from La Pata Maryland, south of Baltimore and his brother lives in Baltimore. He grew up with soccer legends to look up to like Denison Cabral "Denison the Menison" a great indoor futsal player who was also on the 2008 US National Futsal team. To be able to beat his hometown team would definitely be an important and personal notch worth adding to the Waza Flo win column.
Scicluna concludes that Saturday night's battle against 1st place Baltimore in MASL action for Detroit "will be a great challenge to compete against and beat them in our Terror Dome!"
