Metro Detroit weather forecast: Chance of storms this week

Thursday afternoon storms possible

DETROIT – The chance for thunderstorms Wednesday evening are not high. We'll be watching a disturbance over northern Indiana that could trigger a few storms over us, mainly between 7 p.m. and midnight.

It will be mostly cloudy and muggy during the night. Lows will be in the mid-60s to low 70s. We may see a few areas of fog form overnight, too.

Thursday will bring our most likely chance of storms in the forecast. Most of those will be in the afternoon, but depending on how things play out overnight, there may be a weakening cluster of storms that arrives during the morning commute. Any storms that pop up in the afternoon could be severe, especially in our South Zone. Highs will be in the mid-80s, with heat index readings near 90 degrees at times.

Friday and Saturday, we’ll return to less humid conditions with some sunshine. Highs will stay around average in the low 80s.

Sunday, humidity returns and so do our storm chances. But again, the chances aren’t great. The way it looks now, our shot at a shower or storm is in the morning with a mostly dry day after that. Highs will be in the low-to-mid 80s.

Most of next week, leading into Labor Day weekend, will be dry. Check out the details in our 10 Day Forecast.
