High near 90

DETROIT – The weather heats up and becomes stormy, again, Thursday and Friday. The threat of strong to severe thunderstorms exists both days.

Thursday morning will be warm and muggy. It's a good idea for campers and workers to prepare for a hot and humid afternoon by wearing light, loose-fitting clothes. Construction workers and people exerting themselves outdoors must prepare plenty of water to drink to stay hydrated during the day. Skies will start with haze and sunshine.

Moist, unstable air is present and paired with a stationary front over the region. Add an upper level low, and Detroit and Southeast Michigan have the perfect ingredients for showers and thunderstorm development. Before any storminess, Thursday afternoon will be partly sunny, hot and humid with highs near 90 degrees. Heat indices will be near 95 degrees.

Between 3pm and 10pm ET, there is a chance widely scattered showers and storms popping up. Not every neighborhood gets drenched. Heat and humidity remain the main concerns.

After 10pm, there is a better chance of more widespread thunderstorms. There is a "Marginal Risk" of storms becoming strong or severe Thursday night to Thursday mid-day. Heavy rain, hail and damaging winds are possible threats. Residents must be ready for power outages and temporarily flooded roads. Remember to "Turn around, don't drown" and find alternate routes from streets with high standing water.

Thursday evening temps will be in the 80s and upper 70s. Thursday night continues to be muggy with warm conditions. Overnight lows will be in the low 70s and upper 60s.

With a low and frontal system approaching, more dangerous storms and, thus, hazardous conditions are possible the first half of Friday. Daytime temps will approach 90 degrees, again, with a heat index of 95 degrees.

After a front passes, more settled weather arrives Saturday and Sunday. It will be partly to mostly sunny and it will not be as hot. Highs will be in the low 80s.
