Why hockey?
Daniel has always loved sports. He's been playing hockey since he was 6 years old, but has been on ice skates and roller blades since he was 2 years old. At first, he played hockey simply because he was always around it, since his dad and brother both played it. When he decided to be a goalie and played more, hockey easily became his favorite sport.

At first it wasn't just hockey, though. Daniel used to play basketball, baseball, and varsity tennis. He still enjoys these sports and wishes he could continue with tennis, but he loves hockey most and has decided to place his focus there.

His favorite part of playing hockey is being a part of a team and working together to win. "As the goalie I like to be the leader on the ice, the one who sets the tone of the game for my teammates."

During the hockey season, Daniel practices 5 days a week, both on and off the ice. He practices with the team as well as with his goalie coach. Off-season this summer, he will do strength training, more work with his goalie coach, and on-ice mobility training.

His best advice for other student athletes is, "Work hard at your talent and give it your all. When sports gets in the way, try to make sure you find the right balance."

Inside the team effort during a game
Daniel and his team fight hard for the win during every game they play. He says that is can be a struggle, going up against strong competitors like Catholic Central, Trenton, Orchard Lake St. Mary, and Brother Rice, but they never give up and play to stay in the game. "We had some great wins and some very disappointing losses, but had lots of fun as a team."

Despite the "crushing loss" against Liggett during overtime in the playoffs, Daniel says it was a great game. They came back with two goals in the third period to tie it up and showed commitment to their team. Daniel recalls, "I had 51 shots on goal, so the game was tough, we lost and it hurt, but it was a great team effort."

Daniel and De La Salle
Daniel says that his coach, Sean Clark, was tough at first, but he came to understand that Coach Clark helped him become more focused and mentally prepared for a game. He realized that the coach and his team were counting on him. Daniel says that Coach Clark is "a great coach and is doing great things to improve De La Salle’s hockey program."

According to Daniel, De La Salle is a school where "everyone has a great attitude and it’s like a brotherhood. My dad, brother, cousin, and uncle went to De La Salle, so I’m glad to carry on that tradition."

We’re happy to see yet another dedicated and talented player’s hard work be rewarded! Congratulations Daniel, and congratulations to all the other 4Frenzy winners and nominees!
