ANN ARBOR – Former astronaut Buzz Aldrin just made the University of Michigan Marching Band’s year.
He retweeted Monday their performance at Michigan Stadium during the Oct. 27 Michigan vs. Notre Dame game in which they formed a NASA formation at half time.
Michigan Band tweeted, “So glad we got the opportunity to collaborate with @NASA, @JimBridenstine, and @UMengineering!”
Aldrin replied with a fun fact that all of Apollo 15′s crew were Michigan alumni.

It seems like we have some friendly competition for the best marching band to honor the #Apollo11 mission! Fun fact - the entire #Apollo15 crew all graduated from @UMich! Well done @umichband . 🚀🚀 https://t.co/3MGDusiGRl

The “friendly competition” he was referring to was Michigan rival Ohio State’s impressive halftime show during an Oct. 5 home game against the Michigan State Spartans complete with fog effects.
An impressive tribute to the Apollo 11 mission! 👏Great work @OhioState. I know Neil would have been proud of his home State. https://t.co/aKgclmnLDl
