ANN ARBOR – It’s spring -- even though it may not feel like it right now -- and that means the start of outdoor project season.

The City of Ann Arbor Public Works Department announced on Thursday it is giving away free wood chips to residents at five city locations, while supplies last.

Wood chips are a great versatile material for outdoor use, including as mulch, path material, a base for playgrounds, chicken runs and more.

Residents must load and haul away the wood chips themselves.

Here’s where you can go to pick them up:

  • Veterans Memorial Park, 2150 Jackson Ave.
  • Southeast Area Park, 2901 E. Ellsworth Road
  • Almendinger Park, 655 Pauline Boulevard
  • Furstenberg Park, 2626 Fuller Road
  • 721 N. Main St.
