Motawi Tileworks in Ann Arbor to host tile workshops, sale in July

Motawi is celebrating 30 years of business

ANN ARBOR – Motawi Tileworks will be hosting a series of events on Saturday, July 23 for the public, including a Make-a-Tile workshop, a raku tile-firing and takeaway and a Motawi Staff Art Sale.

The two workshops will be held outdoors and the art sale will be inside the tileworks’ warehouse.

The Make-a-Tile workshop will be on a drop-in basis from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motawi tile experts will teach participants how to carve their own tile. The first tile costs $5 and each additional tile costs $10. If participants prefer to ship their tiles instead of pick up, shipping is $15.

Tiles can be started until 2:30 p.m. and will be glazed in Caribbean Blue.

Motawi Tileworks is located at 170 Enterprise Drive.

From 10 a.m. to noon, visit the neighboring tent to fire raku tiles with Motawi-owned Rovin Ceramics. During this workshop, participants will be able to choose their tile and glaze colors. Each guest can create one tile and the cost is $15.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Motawi artisans will be hosting a sale of their own work, including ceramics, woodwork, jewelry, mixed-media and more.
