While Niche gave the district an overall grade of A+, AAPS dropped in the rankings after having been in fourth place in 2022, and in second place in 2021.

The district currently serves almost 17,500 students between 32 schools, with 70% of students considered proficient in reading and 66% proficient in math, Niche said.

This year, it was beaten by Northville, Okemos and several other school districts in Metro Detroit.

Here’s how rankings are decided:

Niche considered several factors, along with school district reviews and data pulled from the U.S. Department of Education.

Factors included SAT/ACT scores, teacher salary, racial and economic diversity, the number of sports, college readiness, graduation rates and teacher quality.

Most schools within the AAPS system were given grades of A or A+; however, there were some that were given Bs and Cs.
