ANN ARBOR – Honor local veterans and military members on Friday during Veterans Day.
Observed annually on November 11, the federal holiday honors the men and women who serve and who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

It was first noted in 1919 and was initially celebrated as Armistice Day to commemorate the ending of WWI. In 1954, the holiday was changed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to Veterans Day in order to honor service members in all wars.

City of Ann Arbor Parks & Rec freebies
Parks & Rec is treating Tree Town veterans and active military members to free golf, swimming and ice skating on Friday. Here are some freebies being offered by the City of Ann Arbor department:
- Swimming at Mack Indoor Pool: 7-8:15 a.m., noon-4 p.m., 7:30-9 p.m.
- Skating at Veterans Memorial Park Indoor Ice Arena (including skate rentals): 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
- Golfing at Huron Hills Golf Course
- Free power cart rental when paying for a round of golf at Leslie Park Golf Course

Washtenaw Community College Veterans Day
Join students and faculty for a Veterans Day flag-raising at 7 a.m. on Friday. Later, at 10:30 a.m., the gold-tier veteran-friendly community college will have a ceremony at 10:30 a.m. in its Student Center.
University of Michigan Veterans Week 2022
From Monday through Friday this week, U-M is hosting several events honoring those who have served.
Notable events include a Wednesday morning panel discussion on women in the military in the Michigan League, a ceremonial flag raising at 8 a.m. on Friday and military melodies played on the U-M Central Campus Carillon in Burton Tower.
The annual Stories of Service event, a special program during Veterans Week, will take place on Friday from 7-9 p.m. at the Michigan Theater. Speakers will share their own stories of service and life in the military.

Concordia University Ann Arbor
The Geddes Road university is hosting its Salute to Service Week this week until Saturday to honor veterans.
Events will happen across the campus including a Blue & Gold Star Walk of Honor, the Jet for a Vet 5K race and a veterans tailgate party on Saturday before the Concordia football game.
