The Ann Arbor Fire Department said on social media that the man had been underwater for around five minutes before being pulled out by bystanders who gave him CPR before emergency services arrived.

Bandemer Park is comprised of 38 acres of nature and park areas. It has paved and unpaved trails, picnic and grilling areas, a disc golf course and docks for canoeing and fishing. The incident took place near one of the docks, Mlive reported.

Fire department officials reminded the community to use personal floatation devices when in the river due to dangerous undercurrents and debris.

The police investigation is ongoing.
