ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Between 20,000 and 25,000 books, board games, video games, audiobooks and puzzles -- plus 5,000 DVDs -- will be ready to find new homes during the return of the JLC Book Sale.
The low-cost, family-run event will run from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Oct.18-21 in building E at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds.

Organizer Todd Whalen said that the upcoming sale will raise funds for a friend, a longtime Ann Arbor resident, who was recently diagnosed with ALS and has already lost the ability to speak. All of the tips gathered from the sale will go towards helping her family.
This month’s event will also have a special visit from Ann Arbor author Dee McQueen, who will be selling her debut mystery novel Deadly Engagement. She will be at the JLC Book Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 18-19 and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 21.
Here’s how things work:
The Whalen family collects books donated by community members through a free service called Give My Books. They then sell items for low prices at their sales and give money to a cause.
The first day of this month’s sale, Wednesday, Oct. 18, is a special “premium access” day will all books costing $4. Starting at 4 p.m., area teachers buying books will get a 10% discount if they show proof of teaching at checkout.
The general sale opens at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19. Items will cost between $1-$5 each.
Shoppers can use cash or credit at the sale.
The Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds are at 5055 Ann Arbor-Saline Rd.
