U.S. News & World Report: Ann Arbor no longer top 10 spot for retirees

ANN ARBOR – Tree Town has been booted out of the top 10 “Best Places to Retire in America,” according to a new listing by U.S. News & World Report.

Ann Arbor has been on the leaderboard for at least the past three years but dropped to No. 11 in the recently released 2024 rankings.

U.S. News & World Report created its list after analyzing public reviews and data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the FBI, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Bureau of Economic Analysis, among others, on 150 of the largest metro areas.

Each metropolitan received scores in six categories including desirability, job market, affordability, health care, happiness and tax friendliness. On a 10-point scale, Ann Arbor’s scores dropped to 6.9 overall, 6.1 for housing affordability and 7.3 for healthcare.

Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids are the only Michigan city named within the top 50. Lansing came in at 53, Detroit at 65, Kalamazoo at 66 and Flint at 79.
