ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Cruelty investigators from the Humane Society of Huron Valley are looking into the circumstances around an abandoned chihuahua found in a dumpster.
The tiny animal, weighing five pounds, was discovered in a cage around 3:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 11, near the intersection of Leforge and Green Roads in Ypsilanti.

Named “Frankie,” the 10-month-old puppy is in good health but is being supervised by HSHV staff.
“We are deeply grateful for the compassionate person who not only alerted us to this distressing situation, but also took it upon himself to help this poor little gal right away,” said HSHV CEO Tanya Hilgendorf. “It takes a village to look out for the innocent, voiceless animals in our community.”
HSHV staff said the dog is scared but has already found a potential home.

The humane society urges community members to be extra aware of any instances of animal neglect or abuse as temperatures drop throughout the winter.
