ANN ARBOR, Mich. – 2023 was a surprisingly violent and sad year if our most-viewed stories are any metric to go by.

Our A4 team took a look back at all of the articles we’ve written this year and found 10 that readers spent the most time with.

1. Pioneer High School student found dead days after she went missing in Ann Arbor

From January: This was a sad way to start the year.

Days after her family reported her missing, Adriana Davidson was found dead at the Pioneer High School football stadium.

A K-9 unit found the 15-year-old high school student after local police and community members spent days looking for her. Read the story here.

2. Police, deputies provide new updates after missing Pioneer High School student found dead

From February: As the community mourned the loss of Adriana Davidson, police were working to find answers.

Deputies released more details about the situation noting there were no signs of foul play after her body was found. This is the update.

3. Charles Woodson stars in hilarious new commercial about Michigan not having a mascot

From November: Football star Charles Woodson, and his Ohio State buddy Eddie George, found out why the Wolverines don’t have an actual wolverine as a live mascot. Watch the commercial here.

4. Police: 14-year-old Ann Arbor girl who disappeared, left note is back with her family

From February: A missing teenager who had not been seen since late 2022 was finally reunited with her family more than three months after disappearing and leaving a note. Here’s the story.

5. University of Michigan ranked No. 1 ‘cultiest’ school in US

From April: This ruffled a few feathers.

Traditions run deep on the University of Michigan’s 206-year-old campus, like walking through the Diag and feeding campus squirrels.

These are so engrained that the Ann Arbor school was ranked as the “cultiest” school in the entire country. Here’s why that is.

6. Police: Woman shot and killed in Pittsfield Township parking lot

From January: A 50-year-old woman was found murdered in the parking lot on Plaza Drive.

An investigation revealed that Andrea Grant was targetted by her killer, a 59-year-old man who died of a self-inflicted gunshot. These are the details.

7. Roads ‘impassable.’ City of Ann Arbor issues public safety alert urging motorists not to drive

From March: Officials urged community members to avoid driving after winter storms and consistent snow made road conditions “extremely hazardous.”

8. Man wanted in murder of woman who was put in trunk of car that was set on fire in Washtenaw County

From March: United States Marshals were searching for a man accused of helping to put a 21-year-old woman in the trunk of a vehicle and then lighting it on fire.

The Marshals Service even offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information that led to an arrest. Check this out.

9. Feds: 2 Ann Arbor restaurants failed to pay $121K in overtime wages to 20 workers

From September: The owners of Isalita and Mani Osteria & Bar were sued by the U.S. Department of Labor for failing to pay more than $120,000 in overtime wages over two years.

“Complying with federal wage laws is not optional,” said Wage and Hour Midwest Deputy Regional Administrator Timolin Mitchell in Detroit. Read the full complaint here.

10. EB I-94 closed in Ann Arbor after truck crashes into overpass

From March: A semi-truck striking the I-94 overpass near Liberty Road caused the eastbound lanes of the highway to be closed for several hours. No injuries were reported.
