Trash causes Christmas Day fire in Ann Arbor high-rise

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Residents of the Courthouse Square apartments got a rude awakening on Christmas morning when compacted trash caused a fire.

Firefighters were called to the 100 S. Fourth Ave. building in downtown Tree Town around 10:23 a.m. to extinguish a fire in the trash chute.

Ann Arbor Fire Department officials said several days’ worth of trash was stuck in a chute and caused smoke on floors 5-11. No injuries or damaged apartments were reported.
