ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Alcohol is thought to be a factor in the “unprovoked” assault of a 27-year-old man waiting at a bus stop in downtown Ann Arbor Monday night.

Police said Donald Dashner-Shipman, 30, aggressively approached the waiting man around 6:15 p.m. near the area Zina Pitcher Place and Ann Street.

He reportedly asked the unnamed man if he was waiting for the bus, then pushed and punched him after receiving an answer.

The man was punched around 20 times and had facial injuries. He was also pinned to the ground and strangled, police said in a release.

Officers arrested Dashner-Shipman at the scene, and the victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The two men did not know each other before the incident.

On Tuesday, Dashner-Shipman was arraigned at the 14A-1 District Court in Ann Arbor on charges of aggravated assault and “assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder or by strangulation.”

His bond is set at $750,000.

Police noted that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven given by the law.
