To make its list, SoFi looked at the two hundred largest metropolitan statistical areas in the country and compared 13 ranking factors including cost of living, social networks, healthcare, housing, income and community networks.
Data was pulled from the U.S. Census Bureau, the Sharecare Community Well-Being Index, Tax Foundation and Sperling’s Best Places, among others.
Although third on the list, Ann Arbor had the lowest tax burden for retirees out of the top 20 happiest cities.
It received a total score of 61.40, a social rank of 64, a financial rank of 14 and 1 for its health ranking.

“Want to enjoy city life without the high prices? Ann Arbor, a college town, has plenty of big city amenities at an affordable price point. Another draw for retirees: Ann Arbor residents enjoy the highest level of healthcare access of the cities on our list, and ranks #1 for health overall.”
