ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Police arrested a 21-year-old Ypsilanti woman and a 23-year-old Westland man on Monday after attempting to rob an Ann Arbor liquor store.

The two attempted to steal items from Falsetta’s Market, at 2200 Pittsfield Boulevard around 2 p.m., then threatened employees when confronted, police said.

An investigation showed the man pointed a handgun at an employee when the woman was prevented from leaving the store.

Officials said the pair drove away in a white Kia sedan that had been reported as stolen in Farmington Hills.

The car was later seen by officers from the Pittsfield Township Police Department heading east on Washtenaw Avenue. It stopped near Washtenaw Avenue and Carlton Drive, and then both the man and woman fled the car.

A deputy from the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, who also responded to the call, found the pair at the Washtenaw Avenue and Foster Avenue bus stop. They were quickly arrested by Ann Arbor police and taken to Washtenaw County Jail.

The closeness of the incident to Carpenter Elementary School caused AAPD to notify the school and have officers at the school during its afternoon dismissal times. Police also notified the public through social media of the increase in police presence but assured there was no through to the public.
