Starting on Monday, construction crews will begin dismantling the bridge connecting parts of the park separated by the Huron River.

Officials said the decision to destroy the bridge was made after a routine inspection found potentially dangerous structural issues that could lead to it failing.
The bridge had previously been closed to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
“Our plan had been to keep the existing bridge open until construction of the new bridge was complete. Having to close the bridge now is very unfortunate. We know this shutdown will impact community members who rely on it as part of their commute to school and work as well as the park itself. Restoring bridge access is our highest priority and we have all hands-on deck investigating options to get us through until the new bridge is complete,” said Ann Arbor Parks & Recreation park planner and landscape architect Hillary Hanzel in a release.
Hanzel added that the city is investigating ways of how to resume traffic in the park which a new bridge is under construction., including the possibility of a temporary crossing.
Gallup Park is a 3000 Fuller Rd.
