After the parade, luminaries and their makers can join a celebration and dance party on Washington Street near Grizzly Peak and Sweetwaters Coffee and Tea. The party will have live music by jazz and funk group The Ruckus from the U-M School of Music, Theater and Dance.
Organizers said this year’s theme is “Fool Bloom” to match flowers springing up around Tree Town in April.
Processions will kick off at 8 p.m.
Here’s where you can join luminary parades:
- Ann Arbor Farmers Market | 315 Detroit St.
- UMMA front lawn | 525 S. State St.
- Slauson Middle School | 1019 W. Washington St.
There will be a series of free luminary-making events from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Sunday in March.
“Fool U” workshops will be led by Detroit Parade float artist Jimmie Thompson. They will be held at Hathaway’s Hideaway, at 310 S. Ashley St. Pre-registration is suggested but walk-in will be welcome if there is space.
Those who can’t make the workshops can buy FoolMoon Luminary kits beginning on March 1. The kits contain tools, materials and video instructions that help to create butterfly-shaped lanterns. They can be bought at Ace Barnes Hardware on Stadium Boulevard, Found Gallery at the Kerrytown Market & Shops, and Sweetwaters on Washington St.
Proceeds help fund FestiFools Studio and free public art.
