ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Girls ages 15-18 can learn what it’s like to have a career in fighting crime during the Blaze & Blue summer camp in June.

Hosted by Ann Arbor’s police and fire departments, participants in the free four-day program will get hands-on experience with different challenges faced by police officers, first responders and firefighters, officials said.

Campers will meet barrier-breaking women who work in the departments and see what it’s like to work on crime scenes, take mugshots and fingerprints, rappel down buildings, and perform a traffic stop.

Participants will also learn about vehicle extrication, reviewing body camera footage, taser deployment, firearm handling and discharging, and alcohol impairment.

Blaze & Blue has limited space so priority is given to area residents. Registration is now open.

Here are the details:

  • 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Monday, June 24 to Thursday, June 27
  • for girls ages 15-18
  • lunch is provided

Register here.
