ANNI ARBOR, Mich. – The Ann Arbor Film Festival, Ann Arbor Art Center and Ann Arbor District Library are working together to honor women film artists from the Detroit area and their impact on the industry during a month-long exhibition.
“Dope Women in Media: Honoring the Women of Film in Metro Detroit” will be at the Ann Arbor Art Center, 11 W. Liberty St., from March 11 through April 6.

The multimedia exhibition, curated by visual artist Laura D. Gibson, showcases the work of seven artists who have influenced pop culture, storytelling and contemporary art in film, video, photography and new media .
Artists in the exhibition include Veyda DeAgro-Ruopp, Katy Dresner, Bree Grant, dream hampton, Kate Levy, Shanae M. Pruitt, and Ozi Uduma.
A free reception and panel discussion involving the exhibition will happen during the Ann Arbor Film Fest week between 3-5 p.m. on Thursday, March 28 at the Ann Arbor Art Center.

- 2021 video triptych “Detroit Will Breathe” by Kate Levy
- Katy Dresner’s 2024 video installation “dataShroud”
- Bree Gant’s 2022 digital video projection “Wend”
- 2022 dream hampton film “Freshwater
- 360 video “The Haunting of Michigan Central Station” by Shanae M. Pruitt from 2021
- Detroit We Dey by Ozi Uduma’s 2023 project “Detroti We Dey”
An opening event and screening of the 1987 film “Who Killed Vincent Chin?” introduced the community to the exhibition on March 8 at the Ann Arbor District Library.
