ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Just before 2 p.m. on Monday, firefighters put out another fire in the building that houses downtown’s Earthen Jar restaurant.

Ann Arbor Fire Department officials said the fire was only in the back of the second floor but smoke was throughout the entire building at 311 South Fifth Avenue.

No one was in the building at the time of the fire and only the second floor was damaged.

Earthen Jar will be closed until assessed by the Washtenaw Couth Health Department, officials said.

The same part of the building caught on fire in December 2022 and the eatery was plagued by break-ins last year.

The fire is under investigation.
