Destination Ann Arbor hires veteran as new vice president of marketing

Marketing industry veteran Amy Karbo is the new vice president of marketing at Destination Ann Arbor.

Karbo initially joined the Washtenaw County area tourism bureau in 2018 as a business engagement manager. She brought 20 years of experience in marketing to the organization, and was quickly promoted to director of communications and community engagement in 2022.

“Amy’s exceptional track record, deep community connections, and visionary approach to marketing make her an ideal fit for this role. We are confident that under her leadership, Destination Ann Arbor’s marketing initiatives will flourish, bringing new opportunities and recognition to Ann Arbor and all the communities in Washtenaw County, said Destination Ann Arbor President & CEO of Sarah Miller in a release.

Karbo also impacts the local community through her involvement in various boards, including positions with Creative Washtenaw and the State Street District. She participates in the executive planning committee for the Ann Arbor Bicentennial.

Prior to Destination Ann Arbor, Karbo worked at various advertising agencies, including serving as Senior Account Executive at DDM Marketing & Communications. There, she managed the Michigan International Speedway account, showcasing her ability to lead high-profile projects with strategic insight and creativity.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Marquette University.

Officials said Karbo will focus on strategically building out the marketing team to meet the evolving strategic needs of Destination Ann Arbor in her new role. Her leadership is expected to drive innovation and data-driven marketing strategies to promote the Ann Arbor area as a premier destination for visitors and business meetings.
