Man shot in Downtown Ann Arbor was trying to break up fight

Police still looking for shooter

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – A man who was shot over the weekend in Downtown Ann Arbor was trying to break up a fight between two other people.

On Sunday, March 24, two people -- identified only as a male and a female -- were arguing outside on North Main Street near Miller Avenue in the downtown area. Ann Arbor police say a man was shot while attempting to intervene.

The male already involved in the fight pulled out a gun and shot the man who was intervening, police report. The injured man drove himself to a parking lot about a quarter-mile away and called police. He was taken to the hospital.

It was not immediately clear how injured the man was. Authorities said he was expected to survive, but no other specific details were provided.

Police said officers went to both the scene of the shooting and to where the injured man had driven to afterward. Officers were “unable to locate” the alleged shooter at either location, officials said.

You can see footage from the scene in the video up above.

Investigators were still looking for the shooter as of Monday morning. Local 4 was working to learn more about who exactly police were searching for.

The Ann Arbor Police Department said Sunday that the shooting was an “isolated” situation and there was no threat to the community. No other information was available as of this writing.
