Michigan football legend Blake Corum to throw ceremonial first Pitch at Detroit Tigers game

DETROIT – Michigan Wolverines football legend Blake Corum will throw out the ceremonial first pitch inside Comerica Park as the Detroit Tigers finish off a three-game homestand against the Oakland Athletics.

The Tigers had another prominent football star throw out the first pitch for Opening Day as Detroit Lions Prow Bowl tackle Penei Sewell took the mound for the home opener on Friday (April 5).

Like Sewell, the Tigers are recognizing Corum for his victorious performance, which helped guide the men in maize to their 12th national championship this past winter.

Corum was named the College Football National Championship Offensive Player of the game after the Wolverines 34-13 thrashing of the Washington Huskies, which sealed Team 144′s perfect season at 15-0, a first in program history.

Corum finished his Wolverines career ranked No. 7 on the all-time rushing list at Michigan (3,737 yards) and is the program’s career record-holder in rushing touchdowns (58), total touchdowns (61), and career points scored (356) to name a few.

Newcomer Jack Flaherty makes his home debut Sunday at 1:40 p.m. as the Tigers wrap up its three-game series against the A’s.

In his opener against the Chicago White Sox, Flaherty struck out seven batters over six innings, but let’s hope he and a 6-2 Tigers like Corum finish the season at the top of the mountain.
