ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Beloved former quarterback Denard Robinson is no longer on the Michigan football coach staff after being arrested for driving while intoxicated.
A university spokesperson confirmed to Local 4 on Tuesday that Robinson, who was suspended last month following an OWI arrest, is no longer on the staff.
Robinson, 33, was a star for the Wolverines during his four-year career from 2009-2012. He threw for 6,250 yards, 49 touchdowns, and 39 interceptions while rushing for 4,495 yards and 42 more scores.
“Shoelace” was a ray of light during an otherwise dark time for the program. He spent two years under the floundering Rich Rodriguez regime before leading Michigan to a Sugar Bowl victory under Brad Hoke in 2011.
Robinson was Michigan’s assistant director of player personnel in 2023 and had been on staff for the last two seasons. The Wolverines won their second and third consecutive Big Ten titles during that time and finished with a national championship.
This is the second time a U of M staffer has parted with the program due to drunk driving since Jim Harbaugh left for the NFL. New defensive line coach Greg Scruggs hardly had time to unpack his bags before resigning in mid-March.
