What we know about shooting that killed 1, hurt 1 in Washtenaw County neighborhood

YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP, Mich. – One person was killed and another was injured when an argument led to a shooting in a Washtenaw County neighborhood.

The shooting happened at 8:34 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2024, in the 100 block of Russell Court in Ypsilanti Township.

Police said multiple people got into an argument and one of them pulled out a handgun.

Shots were fired, and a man was struck. Officials pronounced him dead at the scene. They believe he was someone who frequented the neighborhood, but didn’t live there.

A woman who lives in the neighborhood was also struck in the leg by gunfire. The severity of her injury is unclear.

The shooter fled the area, and no arrest has been made, according to the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation continues.
